PARTICULARS OF THE OFFICE OF ASSISTANT CHIEF MECHANICAL

ENGINEER, KOWLOON-CANTON RAILWAY, IN THE COLONY

OF HONG KONG

1. Duties of Office and

qualifications required for their performance.

To take charge of:-

(a) all mechanical work involved in

running a railway.

(b) all work involved in maintaining and

adapting Government motor vehicles. The officer selected should be a Corporate member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers or hold equivalent qualifications. He should be familiar with locomotive construction and running shed work in all its aspects. He should have had experience in carriage and wagon building and in workshop management. He should be thoroughly conversant with internal combustion engines in connection with the running of railway motor coaches and the upkeep of a fleet of motor vehicles.

Candidates should be about 35 years of age.

£700 to £750 by annual increments of £25.

First Class Passage will be provided in accordance with Colonial Regulation No.81.

Three years all of which will be probationary.

Although it must clearly be understood that the Government is and will be under no obligation to provide further employment, the office of Assistant Chief Mechanical Engineer is normally regarded as of a permanent nature, and in the ordinary course of events if the service and conduct of the officer is entirely satisfactory to the Government and if he is considered in every way fit, medically and otherwise, to continue in office, and if replacement by engagement of some other person would become necessary but for his retention, the prospects are that the
